Aldi shoppers beg supermarket to make iconic item 5p – but receive hilarious response

Once upon a time, you used to be able to walk into a shop with a pound and come out with a handful of sweets – but these days are now over. Many now use the price of a Cadbury’s Freddo as a light-hearted measure of economic change.

In response, has introduced a more affordable alternative for customers – their Deeno the Dinosaur bars. These budget-friendly, dinosaur-themed treats come in packs of ten for just £1.99, making each bar only 20p – which is 5p cheaper than a Freddo.

Initially, fans were thrilled with the new treat, praising its great value for money. But now, some shoppers are calling on Aldi to bring the price even lower, tapping into nostalgia for when sweets were far cheaper.

On X (formerly ), a sweet enthusiast named Mark Lawson posted: "Petition to Aldi UK to sell these individually for 5p and let Deeno fulfil a vital role in the economy."

Aldi responded with a humorous retort. "Just been booted out the lawyer's office for suggesting this," they replied from their official account.

But fans didn’t let up, continuing to push for a nostalgic price. One user commented: "Love this idea." Another suggested: "Go back and suggest 10p."

This comes after another shopper, Michelle Hodge, compared Deeno to Freddo, sparking a funny exchange. She wrote: "I absolutely love these little Deeno bars. Do you think you may bring out a caramel-like that other brand that's a frog? 10 bars for £1.99 BARGAIN you'd only get 8 frogs."

When a shopper highlighted the better value compared to the "overpriced" Freddo, left fans in stitches.
