All the areas that will miss out on snow this week as Brits brace for cold blast - mapped

Brits are bracing for a barrage with some parts of the country seeing upward of 20cm of snow - but there will be some who will miss out entirely on the white stuff.

While Northern Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and northern Wales are forecasted to get a dusting, there are . The development will be a disappointment to those hoping to see some snow this month.

The South West, South East, East Anglia, Southern Wales and southern regions in the Midlands are set to see no snowfall whatsoever. Southern and central Scotland will also dodge a dusting for much of the week before it arrives on Friday, November 23.

The white stuff is expected to fall in northern Scotland from 6pm on Monday. Parts of Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Greater and northern Wales will see between 5cm to 13cm of snow. As much as 24cm of snow is forecast to fall in parts of northern Scotland with a flurry continuing to fall in northern England, excluding the North East.

Similar conditions are expected on Friday with parts of Northern Ireland seeing some snowfall. On Saturday, a snowy retreat begins in England with the exception of Cumbria that could see 18cm of snowfall. But north of the border the white stuff is forecast to fall with 22cm in the Highlands.

The issued three yellow snow and ice warnings for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The first warning covers northern Scotland as well as the Orkney and Shetland islands. Its second warning includes the previously mentioned regions as well as central Scotland down to much of Yorkshire and Cumbria.

The third yellow weather warning solely keeps the area from central Scotland down to northern England. People in the affected regions are expected to face a "small chance" that power cuts will happen. It added there could be some travel delays.

People have been warned to be mindful of icy surfaces that could result in injuries from slips and falls. Settling snow is expected to be localised to hills and mountains above 300 metres, where 5-10cm is possible though it could rise to as much as 20cm in areas above 400 metres.

Met Office spokesperson Grahame Madge said: “It’s going to get colder over the coming days – it’s still pretty mild in the south but there is a cold front that will be sinking south across northern parts of the UK. There’s going to be some wintriness in the hills, for example, tonight and into tomorrow. That’s all at quite high levels – Scottish mountains, Lake District maybe. Then we get into our warning period for snow and ice.”
