American tries UK McDonald's for the first time and is thrilled by item not served in US

An American has tried a variety of UK food offerings - and wants to take one of the food items home with him.

The item in question is not sold in US stores, according to foodie @ajslambino. He was stunned by limited time menu items served in the UK, but revolted by others.

Ordering whatever he could which was not available in the US, the foodie prepared to try out the rich tomato dip, a double BBQ quarter pounder with cheese, and something he had never seen before.

Those items were the "garlic cheese bites," with a share box worth of goodies spotted in the video. Among the food haul was a Galaxy ice cream and a small portion of chips.

He said of the rich tomato dip: "It doesn't smell like ketchup so I don't know what it is. It came with the cheesy bites so I'm thinking it's tomato sauce." Trying the dip and cheesy bite out, the American was delighted with the taste and said: "Oh my God, why don't we have these in America? They're amazing."

He was less impressed with the fries, which "tasted like fries," and did little to elicit more than a shrug of the shoulders. But the mayo chicken burger appeared to be on the US menu after all.

"We just call it a chicken sandwich," he said, giving the US and UK McDonald's menus a closer tie, until it came to the double BBQ quarter pounder with cheese. Delighted by the premium menu item, @ajslambino added: "The BBQ adds a little kick to it."

Finally, it was time for dessert. His verdict was an overwhelmingly impressed one, and he has since called on the American brand to copy over some of the UK menu items.

"We got to get on this s*** here," he said. Comments left on the TikTok appeared to agree with his verdict on the UK McDonald's experience. One wrote: "I've just traveled across America and I can honestly say UK Maccies s***s all over US Maccies."

Others have spoken on the similarities between the chicken sandwiches, with UK foodies served up a "budget" version. One comment read: "Mayo chicken is a budget chicken sandwich but it at least give us options." And another wrote: "Chicken mayo is the 'snack/cheap' menu version of the McChicken sandwich, which we also have [SIC]."
