Andy Robertson sends timely reminder to Arne Slot in thumping Liverpool win

Send Push

Andy Robertson as he kickstarted the attack which led to fourth goal against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.

The Scottish left-back found himself among the substitutes for a second successive game, and for the third time in six games since the October international break.

He only had around 10 minutes to make an impact against Leverkusen but did exactly that, winning a strong tackle on the edge of Liverpool's area in stoppage time to regain possession for his team. From there, sent away and the Uruguayan's blocked shot rolled .

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock was on punditry duty for BBC Radio and noted Robertson's contribution: “Luis Diaz will get the plaudits for the goal but the defending from Andrew Robertson, snapping into a challenge, gets the side off on the counter. When Diaz gets the ball he takes a touch as it falls to him and gets the shot into the bottom left hand corner.”

Robertson will be aiming to regain his place as a regular in Arne Slot's side after the November international break having been left out of the team more often than he was used to being under Jurgen Klopp.

The 30-year-old has started 10 games at left-back so far this season, with Kostas Tsimikas lining up six times. Slot was asked whether he is facing a left-back dilemma ahead of Liverpool's game against Brighton last weekend but responded: "I wouldn’t say it is a dilemma. There are other positions where we have rotated.

"It probably also has to do with Robbo's [Robertson's] pre-season. He had no pre-season because he came back injured from the Euros so he missed almost the whole pre-season. For most of them it was only two weeks but for him it was only a few days.

"Kostas did really well in that period of time so it has to do with the quality Kostas has in that position but it also has to do with Robbo missing pre-season. That's why we started rotating from the start a bit. If a player has missed pre-season he can't play three games in a row. That's the situation.

"It was good for Robbo to play against Arsenal and against Brighton [in the Carabao Cup last week]. That is making sure he is getting into that rhythm of playing twice a week."
