Arne Slot has 4 reasons to be positive about unwelcome international break

Send Push

The second of three international breaks in this early part of the season is upon us but it's not all doom and gloom for Arne Slot and Liverpool.

The Reds may have gotten off to the perfect start this season with nine wins in 10 games across all competitions but now is the time for another two-week layoff as players prepare to jet off around the world to represent their countries, leaving fans already counting down the days before their favorite players are back in domestic action once more.

For , the international break comes at an inconvenient time following six successive wins in three competitions, putting a stop to any consistency built up by the players. However, there are still reasons to be positive heading into the next fortnight.

Here, picks out four things can be content with ahead of the October international break, despite having to wave goodbye to the majority of his players over the next 10 days or so.

Nunez looking sharp again

had to wait until Liverpool's sixth game of the season to make his first start of the new campaign but things couldn't have gone better for the Uruguayan on September 21.

The Reds striker has since made two further starts and , providing an assist in the former, and appears to be getting sharper with each match. You'd think an international break would come at a bad time for the 25-year-old, but in fact, it's a good thing.

That's because Nunez is serving the final two fixtures of his for Uruguay , meaning he will remain on Merseyside over the next fortnight and in between matches.

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was a surprise inclusion in Saturday's lineup to face but the academy graduate was a welcome return to the side for Slot and co. to remain top of the Premier League.

It marked Jones' second start of the season after featuring from the off against in the last month, meaning he is virtually back to full match fitness and is ready to kick on over the international break, where he will hope to retain his place on Liverpool's return to action later this month.

The 23-year-old's availability also boosts Slot's options in midfield and like Nunez, his lack of international action can only be a good thing for the Dutchman. By remaining on Merseyside, Jones increases his chances of avoiding further injuries and will be well-rested by the time the other players return.

The international break means there are fewer matches for Liverpool's injured players to miss, including young midfielder . The 21-year-old has managed just seven minutes of action this season after .

The former star was towards the end of last month and it's been previously reported , suggesting a return could be on the cards once the international break is over.

If so, it would be a major boost for Slot ahead of Liverpool's hectic run of fixtures on the club's return to action, providing him with another option in midfield and taking the pressure off some of the other stars to perform in consecutive matches.

As with Elliott, the international break also means there are fewer fixtures for first-choice goalkeeper to miss, on Saturday with a hamstring issue that has since .

Liverpool's No.1 will now look to get back to full fitness as soon as possible and the two-week break provides a major chance to do so, although Slot has already confirmed that he doesn't expect the 32-year-old to be available for the first game back against on October 20.

With such a congested fixture schedule, it increases the amount of games Alisson can miss, although at least that will be reduced given there are none for the next two weeks. Slot can only hope that the Brazilian shot-stopper makes good progress over the next fortnight.
