Barry McGuigan son breaks silence on heartbreaking I'm A Celebrity scenes

Barry McGuigan's son has broken his silence following his dad's heartbreaking scenes.

The former boxer, 63, broke down in tears on Monday night's show discussing the tragic death of his daughter, Danika. Taking to , paying tribute to his dad, Shane McGuigan wrote: "Thank you to all the other campmates supporting dad. We appreciate it immensely."

Barry and his wife Sandra, who he married in 1981, welcomed four children together with sons Shane, Jake, Blain, and daughter Danika - who was affectionately called Nika. However, the couple and their family were left after a battle against cancer.

In heartbreaking scenes around the campfire in , Barry candidly shared the final words of his daughter before she died. Leaving his fellow celebrities and viewers at home in tears, Barry recalled Danika said" "Mum, I can't hold on" before slipping away.

With his campmates around him, Barry continued: “She had leukaemia, when I was making The Boxer with Daniel Day Lewis, three weeks from the end I had to leave because she’d been diagnosed with leukaemia, they thought she wasn't going to get better but she fought back and she won it. She had two years of chemo.”

Barry went on to tell star Jane Moore that Danika had “pains in her tummy" but she put off going to the doctor until she was eventually diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer. He concluded, before breaking down: "Five weeks, five weeks she died.” Barry's story left his fellow stars in tears as they flocked around him to offer him hugs and support.

Viewers were also moved by the story - with many taking to X to admit they also had been reduced to tears. One viewer wrote: "Barry man.. don’t do this to me. That’s actually heartbreaking. No parent should ever lose their child. #ImACeleb." Another shared: "Barry. You got me out the blue there." While a third commented: "Oh my God my heart is breaking for Barry McGuigan #imacelebrity #ImACeleb."
