BBC The One Show hosts pay tribute to Timothy West after death aged 90

Viewers of BBC's The One Show were moved during a recent episode when hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp took a moment to honour the memory of beloved actor Timothy West.

In a profoundly touching segment, the show saw presenters joined by actress Daisy Ridley, and 21-year-old Emily from the Children in Need challenge team.

As the programme wrapped up its daily broadcast, Alex and Roman paid homage to Timothy. His family had earlier confirmed his peaceful passing in his sleep on Tuesday, with an announcement made today (November 13).

Toward the end of the show, host Alex solemnly expressed: "And just before we go, we wanted to say how saddened we are on the news that Timothy West has died at the age of 90."

Roman continued, paying his respects: "He was a brilliant actor who many will remember for his role in . He also recently made a lovely film for us alongside his wife, Fawlty Towers star Prunella Scales," reports .

Alex then concluded with a poignant note: "So we're going to leave you now with a touching moment from that film that was all about their relationship."

The show concluded by sharing an emotional clip where Timothy could be seen reading a heartfelt letter to Prunella and reflecting on the beautiful journey of their love.

Remembered as an iconic figure on stage and screen, Timothy West enjoyed an illustrious career spanning over sixty years, making acclaimed appearances in works such as Ever After, Beyond Borders, EastEnders, and amongst others.

On Wednesday, November 13, the family of West were engulfed in sorrow as they announced his passing. The poignant statement shared through his son Samuel's X account expressed: "After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old."

Continuing with deep affection, they revealed: "Tim was with friends and family at the end. He leaves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. All of us will miss him terribly."

Tributes poured out as the statement concluded with immense gratitude: "We would like to thank the incredible staff at St George's Hospital, Tooting and at the Avery Wandsworth for their loving care during his last days. Juliet, Samuel and Joseph West."

The One Show airs Mondays- Fridays at 7pm on BBC One.
