BBC viewers make the same complaint about Paddy McGuinness' new show minutes in

BBC viewers were left less than impressed on Sunday night as they watched the first episode of Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping.

In the first episode, the two former Top Gear hosts travelled to Sweden on a quest to crack the code on how to age well.

Before their trip kicked off, Paddy McGuiness showed his co-star what they'd be travelling across the country in, a vintage Cross Country Volvo.

Thrilled by the vehicle, Chris started to reel off information about their mode of transport as Paddy joked: "We might be here for some time, do yourself a brew. I had to let him do a little bit of something with cars!"

The 50-year-old was referencing their time hosting Top Gear together, although this wasn't the only time the former BBC show was mentioned.

While on their journey, Chris started to give viewers more insight into their 23-year-old Volvo, detailing the pedal boxes.

Paddy commented: "As I said earlier, that's the other show, right? You've got to stop doing that on this trip. It's not going to wash. A different set of viewers, just putting it out there."

Looking disappointed, Chris replied: "Yeah, but I like all that stuff."

However, it wasn't long before viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the programme, with many unimpressed with the Top Gear hints.

One person said: "I’ve just watched half of the first episode of #PaddyAndChrisRoadTripping - if ever the editorial drive of a programme was more “we’ve paid for the so we’ve got to do something” I’d like to not see it."

Someone else fumed: "What is the point of this? Two blokes driving through Sweden. Why? Did the #bbc think this was a good replacement for #TopGear ? Its not. So far it's c**p. #roadtripping "

As someone else commented: "My word, is this the best the @BBC can do and then put it out on a Sunday night?"

Another asked: "So this is Grand Tour on the cheap?"

Although there were some viewers who enjoyed their new programme with one another.

One person said: "Really enjoying #RoadTripping Like Paddy and Chris on Top Gear but this is better."

With another adding: "Absolutely loving Paddy and Chris road-tripping."

During the show, viewers saw the pair enter a sauna to help restore body confidence, take a cold plunge into the cold waters and find ways to improve their mental health.

In the next instalment, Paddy and Chris will head to Greece island of Ikaria. A synopsis teases they'll be exploring the reason why one in three of the local residents live well into their nineties.

It reads: "They head to sea with a 75-year-old fisherman who has no plans to ever retire, keep their brains healthy with a few rounds of backgammon, milk goats and put up fences for a farming family, and test their mettle with rock climbing and surfing."

Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
