Big Brother viewers 'in hysterics' over 'cruel' twist just hours into new ITV series

A less than 24 hours ago but the first twist of the show's new series has already begun.

The Big Brother house was split into two factions in the , with - with viewers watching at home loving the 'cruel' start.

During Sunday night's launch, as the 16 contestants were introduced, they had to choose between the red or blue side of the house. A majority of 11 opted for red, only to discover they'd become 'non-housemates', while the remaining five who chose blue became official housemates.

The non-housemates are now facing the first eviction of the series and won't have the luxury of living in the house; instead, they'll be relegated to storage. This twist followed hosts and kicking off the show, with AJ declaring "if you still can't believe Brat summer is officially over, then get ready for Big Brother autumn".

AJ, 36, teased that the identities of the 16 participants would soon be unveiled, with the ultimate victor pocketing a cool £100,000. She also hinted at a "very important choice" that the contestants would face during the premiere. Big Brother then dropped a bombshell, splitting the house into red and blue factions, demanding the contestants pick a side. After choosing their allegiances, they were tasked with persuading new entrants to join their team. "I'm not going to lie. I LVE that twist, What makes it better is half the house is in storage," one viewer penned on (X) as the launch show aired on Sunday night.

"Liking the storage twist': 'This non housemate / storage launch night twist is BB10 (non housemates) and CBB11 (b Basement) round into one," another added, with a third quipping: "Yasssss a fantastic lunch night! I'm liking the lineup and I liked the cheeky twist from Big Brother at the end too!" A fourth penned: "I don't praise much that C5 did with #bbuk but tonights twist set up reminded me of the Turf Wars task they did in one of their early series, which was one of the best twists they ever did."

Elsewhere during Sunday's launch show, As Thomas, a 20 year old amputee footballer from Carlisle, entered the house, Emma, a 53 year old aesthetics business owner from Essex, now living in Altrincham, immediately recognised him.

Emma let slip that they had met before, saying: "I saw you at the audition and I was like he's going to get in the house!" Fans took to Twitter, now X, to react to the revelation, with one user commenting: "'I saw you at auditions' so what you're telling me is some of them have deffo already met #BBUK". Another viewer wrote: "The fact they all know each other from auditions? ? ? literally why? #bbuk." Others chimed in, saying: "Thomas and Emma saw each other at the auditions haha #BBUK" and "They knew each other from auditions ? ? #BBUK."

Big Brother will continue to be broadcast daily at 9pm on ITV2, followed by its sister show, Big Brother: Late and Live.
