Brendan Cole has insisted that star needs to face up the 'harsh truth' after he found himself in the dreaded dance-off over the weekend.

After failing to impress viewers at home, former and star Shayne, 39, found himself in the bottom-two and dancing it off against DIY SOS star Nick Knowles.

Luckily, Shayne and his dance partner Nancy Xu Jones were saved by all four judges - Anton du Beke, , Motsi Mabuse, and Craig Revel-Horwood and it was Nick who was sent packing from the competition after making his return to the show after sustaining two injuries.

Sharing his thoughts on why Shayne found himself in the bottom two, former professional Brendan, 48, didn't hold back as he told The that the chart-topping singer needs to face some home truths. Brendan, who is currently working with Sky Vegas, told us: "That's the way the competition goes at this point - with Shayne Ward being in the bottom two.

"About week four or five, there's always a bit of a shock when somebody goes from third on the leaderboard to being in the bottom two – that's pretty harsh. It means nobody has voted for you, nobody's really enjoying what you're doing compared to everybody else. He's a very likable person but choreography and choice of the dance are probably what saw him in the bottom two.”

It comes after the lowest-scoring dances on Saturday night were Nick Knowles and Luba Mushtuk’s long-awaited Movie Week Charleston, which earned them 21 points, and Dr Punam and Gorka Jive, which landed them in bottom place with 20 points.

However, it was Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu who joined sealing the DIY SOS star’s fate. Shayne and Nancy were placed in the middle of the leaderboard for their Cha Cha, so it came as no surprise when the judges unanimously voted for them to stay in the competition.

Upon hearing the judges' decision to send him home, Nick responded: "I've really been surprised by how much I've loved doing it." He went on to explain: "Two things happen: one, is how much you care each week, and the other is how much you don't want to let down your partner. The only reason I could do this this evening was because of Luba's changes."

Summing up his partnership with Luba on the show and the way she was able to adapt to his injury in three words, he stated: "She did amazing." Luba went on to praise Nick's "determination" as she held back tears and told him: "Thank you." Nick also thanked the various staff that had helped him through his injury, before wishing luck to his fellow competitors.
