Food in the UK and America is drastically different in many ways, so trying it can be a real experience for the tastebuds.
That's exactly what one British man, Alex, found out when his American girlfriend Tay took him out for , which is considered pretty typical in the US, whereas in the UK, it's not something ever eaten.
Taking to their joint account @tayandalexx, the pair went for "biscuits, gravy, and pancakes" - as Tay wrote over the top: "I took my northern English boyfriend for an American breakfast". In the caption, she penned: "Should have just taken him to for breakfast."

Tay said they had got "biscuits and gravy", and looking horrified, Alex added: "It's not gravy, is it? Because it was white and lumpy. Call it whatever you want, just don't call it gravy," he fumed, as Brits are used to gravy being a rich brown colour.
She continued to show off what was on the plate, saying: "This is fried chicken with french toast, two eggs," and then Alex asked whether there was a blob of ice cream on the French toast, but she pointed out "it's butter".
Alex then said the hash browns wouldn't be as good as the ones you can get from McDonald's saying: "Maccies hash browns are the best in the ."
"What's in that gravy? What's the lumps?" Alex asked, and Tay responded with sausage. Shocked, Alex continued: "You got sausage in the gravy? F**k, that's always a good idea init."
Alex still couldn't get his head around the fact he was eating fried chicken on a biscuit, saying in England, that would be a bizarre combination.
His 10-word assessment of the food was that in England: "Everyone would look at you like you had two heads," if you said you were eating a biscuit and chicken together.
He then bit the biscuit and said: "Yeah, that's not a f**king biscuit, is it? It's like a savoury scone that's been on the shelf too long init. Not overly impressed with them biscuits." He then pointed out "gravy's not meant to be white".
Alex's scathing review continued as he referred to the biscuit and hash brown as "s***e", but said there's one thing he "won't deny" and it's that "America's got the best pancakes in the world". But he then continued to reiterate that he wanted to "stick" a Maccies hash brown in his "gob", saying they were "the best in the world".
In the comments, one American fumed: "It’s not British gravy. It actually has flavour, texture, and is actually good." Another penned: "It might surprise you to know that there are multiple types of gravy. The UK food scene is limited."
A third wrote: "I’m a Brit living in the US and I’m with him on the gravy. I don’t understand the whole biscuits and gravy thing." Someone else added: "I thought the exact same thing when I got biscuits and gravy in the US. What the f**k is this white s***e all over a scone."
