Children In Need's Mel Giedroyc halts show after 'gross' blunder leaves fans in hysterics

BBC Children in Need was abruptly interrupted live on air after TV host Mel Giedroyc experienced an embarrassing mishap. On Friday night (November 15), the comedian was joined by Ade Adepitan MBE, Vernon Kay, Chris Ramsey, Rochelle Humes and Lenny Rush to host this year's annual charity extravaganza.

The 2024 presenters were all set to guide viewers through a three-hour special filled with comical sketches and star-studded performances.

However, just one hour into the show, things took an unexpected twist when the presenter handed over to Mel and Vernon after discussing the fundraising efforts of a local restaurant.

As they welcomed viewers back, the former Great British Bake Off host had an awkward moment when she "snotted" live on air.

Before moving on to the next segment, Mel confessed: "Sorry, I've just snotted. Please excuse me" as she turned away from the camera to tidy herself up.

She quickly regained her composure amidst studio laughter, joking: "Sorry, we're live. Good."

A shocked Vernon asked: "You just what?" to which she sheepishly responded: "I just snotted", reports .

Vernon immediately halted the show, raising his hand before turning his back to the camera to inspect Mel's flustered face. After a quick check, he reassured her: "You're good, you're good, you're good" allowing Mel to swiftly carry on with the programme.

Despite assurances, the presenter couldn't resist repeatedly wiping her nose and diverting her gaze from the camera during the live segment.

The father of two felt a wave of sympathy for Mel as he drew her into a comforting side hug, while she whispered a desperate "Help me" amidst his chuckles as he wrapped up the segment.

It wasn't long before viewers took to X (formerly ) to share their amusement over the cringe-worthy moment. One user joked: "'I've just snotted' THE funniest moment so far! I love Mel... and Vernon too for that matter! [giggling emoji] #ChildreninNeed."

Another viewer concurred, commenting: "Mel Giedroyc probably providing the best laugh of the night on #ChildrenInNeed [three cry-laughing emojis]."

A third chimed in: "It doesn't matter what else the show tonight, nothing will top Mel's 'I've just snotted' #childreninneed."

BBC Children in Need is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
