Cleaning expert's 'genius' hack to get grubby baby mats looking new again

Every new parent knows the struggle of keeping , as they're all but guaranteed to get grubby.

Homecare expert and author Lynsey Crombie, affectionately known by fans as Lynsey Queen of Clean, has dished out some invaluable advice for reviving your tired-looking mat. During her an appearance at a festival in in 2022 – the – Lynsey responded eagerly to queries from parents striving for cleanliness whilst juggling child-rearing tasks.

One diligent mum sought out Lynsey's insight on how to restore her toddler’s mat, now an "horrible colour", to its former glory. With inevitable spills and splashes no matter the care taken, Lynsey had the perfect remedy. Lynsey suggested: "Nail polish remover or hydrogen peroxide. Tiny bit of nail polish remover and obviously rinse it before putting baby back on it!"

At the same event, Lynsey also dealt with an enquiry about annoying permanent marker stains on a glossy banister. Lynsey's wisdom was clear: "Have you tried toothpaste on that one? Try that one, and if that doesn't work, try nail polish remover as well.

"Try both of those, and if they don't work, message me and I'll help you. But remember, with the toothpaste, try and leave it overnight. So don't just put it on and expect a miracle within ten minutes.

"For permanent marker, I'd leave it on as long as you can. Really rub it in as well and then have a look in the morning."
