has disagreed with UFC boss over the pound-for-pound great in the promotion with the Irishman insisting is No.1.

White has remained adamant that is the pound-for-pound best in the despite his inactivity. 'Bones' hasn't fought since defeating Cyril Gane last year and is scheduled to make his return to the cage next month against heavyweight icon Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. The American is widely-regarded as one of the best fighters to ever step foot in the octagon.

When White was recently asked for his thoughts on the latest pound-for-pound rankings - which sees Jones down in third as per the official UFC website - the 55-year-old was left furious. In an interview with Kevin Iole, he said: "Jon Jones is ranked number three pound-for-pound in the . The most f****** ridiculous, embarrassing, stupid, know-nothing about f****** fighting ranking of all time.

"Jon Jones is the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, period, end of story. To have anybody above Jon Jones right now, just goes to show that you know absolutely f****** nothing. It’s not debatable. Anybody who even tries to debate this with me, you’re just hating on Jon Jones and you don’t like him as a person. These are f*****g facts. It’s not like me and Jon Jones have this unbelievable relationship. What I’m saying about Jon Jones is not debatable. The baddest dude to ever walk the face of the earth in combat sports.”

One man who disagrees with White's opinion is McGregor. Currently, Islam Makhachev is top of the pile - despite only fighting once this year, a submission win against Dustin Poirier in June. While the lightweight champion continues to dominate the division, the Irishman believes Pereira should be in at one.

Speaking to , the 36-year-old was full of praise for the Brazilian, saying: “2024 has been Alex Pereira’s year, no one can deny that. If we go by that, forget belts or anything of that, it’s in competition. [Three] fights this year, four knockouts, I’d put Alex Pereira as number one…

“I think he poses a lot of problems for Jon [Jones] also. That’s a dangerous style for Jon. But, it’s a decent one for him, because he’s not so big. Jon’s new to the heavyweight division, had a nice one against Ciryl Gane, but still untested at heavyweight. And I’m sure in the back of his mind…some of these guys are really big. Alex is a nice one, and still a dangerous one though, and at the core of it it’s probably even more dangerous [than Stipe Miocic]. I’d be excited to see that bout take place.”

'Poatan' has remained active since winning the vacant light-heavyweight title in 2023. This year, the 37-year-old has fought three times, defeating Jamahal Hill, Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree Jr. Following his win over Rountree Jr last weekend, Pereira has earned some time away from the cage. It's likely that his next title defence will take place in early 2025 against the winner of Magomed Ankalaev and Aleksandar Rakic - which is scheduled to take place at UFC 308 on October 26.
