Conor McGregor teases Floyd Mayweather rematch and says talks are ongoing

Send Push

Conor McGregor claims he could fight again in a rematch of their 2017 clash.

Mayweather, 47, beat the Irish MMA star in Las Vegas after being lured out of retirement by a $300million (£230m) pay day. The American extended his professional record to 50-0 by stopping in the 10th round on what was his opponent’s boxing debut.

Referee Robert Byrd brought the fight at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena to a halt to give Mayweather the win – and he was winning 89-81 89-82 87-83 on the judges’ scorecards anyway. But McGregor clearly feels ready for another shot at Mayweather – and the inevitable payday it would bring.

Speaking in Marbella ahead of the Bark-Knuckle Fighting Championship, the 36-year-old called out Mayweather which also included call-outs for and long-time rival Nate Diaz. "Floyd, you little pussycat! You're doing back conversations trying to get fights at 155lbs," McGregor shouted.

"Fight me at my weight! I'm the A-side [and] you owe me! Bare-knuckle – McGregor vs Mayweather [at] 170lbs, let's go, baby - take off the gloves and fight b****!

He added to : “You know, there are conversations ongoing. I fought Floyd at 153lbs, which is a low weight, so he brought me all the way down. It was over 12 rounds. I’d never fought 12 rounds. Now the discussion is at my weight, higher, heavy weight. 170lbs and maybe less rounds. So, I would fancy it.

“I had him bent over. You see me, I had him bent over. What more do you want me to do? Do you want me to finish the job while I have him bent over? I don’t need. I am so blessed by God. I don’t need nothing. I don’t need, I have, but I’d like a fight.”

Bare knuckle fighting boss Dave Feldman would be happy to sanction a money-spinning fight between McGregor and Mayweather. He told : “Someone said to me, ‘What do you think about Manny Pacquiao fighting Floyd Mayweather again in boxing?’

“They were asking me for some help, and I said, ‘I’d love to see Floyd Mayweather versus in bare-knuckle because I think it’s a whole different fight, with the clinching that you can do and getting hit with the knuckles’.

“We just think it’s a different . So, it is a different sport-it’s different types of pain. It’s not necessarily that you’re getting hit and you’re getting flashes and concussed, but you get hit on the cheekbone and you’re like, ‘Oh, man, that hurt’. So, it really just depends on who is able to withstand that kind of stuff.”
