'Cuffing season' is in full swing as singletons search for a winter romance - here's what you need to know

An eye-opening survey of 1,000 adults ready to mingle has found that 4 in 10 are on the hunt for a partner to cosy up with as 'cuffing season' arrives.

Following a lively summer with mates, the poll revealed quite a few singles are keen to 'hunker down' with a special someone for the chillier months, rather than facing the frost solo.

While a breezy 35% relished their single status during the summer, a solid third are now eager to snag a cuddle buddy as the temperatures get colder, hoping for a plus-one to ring in New Year's Eve with.

However, if romance does spark this winter season, it seems there's a probation period of about four months before the pair will decide if the fling can become something more permanent. For a third, this seems unlikely as they candidly confess they'll probably cut ties with their seasonal sweethearts once the turns nice again.

In the digital age of love, 27% of those surveyed favour hunting for a holidate through dating apps and social media, while a close 23% would rather encounter their match over clinks at a bar or getting their groove on at a club.

When it comes down to analysing what singletons want it appears that the top requirements for a partner this 'cuffing season' include someone with a good sense of humour, someone who responds to texts promptly and someone who doesn't snore.

The biggest deal breakers were disrespect or lack of kindness and poor hygiene.

The research was carried out by giffgaff, which is setting the romantic stage with its brand-new Cuffing Tariff, designed to keep love-filled chats going strong. Sophie Wheater from the mobile juggernaut commented: "There's something special about sharing winter traditions and warm moments with someone by your side."

The mobile provider has partnered with Lovehoney's sex and relationship expert Annabelle Knight to provide advice on how to spice things up using online platforms and understanding your own sexual wellness.

Annabelle commented: "Sexual wellness is especially important during cuffing season from understanding your own needs and desires to fostering clear, respectful communication with a partner."

"This period often brings a surge of new relationships people seeking warmth and companionship, and clear consent helps both you and your partner feel safe and relaxed, which leads to better connections and a more enjoyable experience overall."
