Speaking last year, Paula had said: "He knew everyone and everyone knew him." Colin, who grew up in Old Swan, was a chef and family man, Paula added, and his death stunned the community.

believe there are people in the community "who know who was responsible" and today renewed their appeal for information, despite the huge passing of time. A spokesperson for the Serious Crime Review Unit at Merseyside Police said: "Although 14 years have passed, Colin’s family will not be able to rest until those responsible for his death are arrested, charged and brought before the courts. We know that over time loyalties change and we still firmly believe that there are people in the community who know who was responsible.

"If those people are in a different situation and now feel able to assist, I would urge them to come forward and help us to get closure for Colin's family. I would like to take this opportunity to appeal once again to the community for their help with the investigation and would urge anyone with information to come forward either directly to the force or anonymously through Crimestoppers in the strictest of confidence.

"No matter how small the piece of information is, it may prove vital to the investigation. We are committed to finding those responsible for the death of Colin and bringing them to justice."

Recalling the night of Colin's death, Paula had told : "I stayed inside and called the police. They told me to stay on the line and not to go outside. I told my daughter to take over the phone and I ran out to Colin. I knew he was hurt so I must have screamed out. He was so badly hurt he couldn't say anything. I just held him and heard him take his final breath."

In recent years, detectives reviewing the case have concentrated on two appeal points - a white man, 5ft 10 in tall, of slim build, wearing a dark coloured tracksuit, who was seen in the alleyway behind Colin’s home just prior to his death. It is unclear if this is the man the much-loved chef heard making a noise and went to investigate, or someone separate. Also, the previous evening, Colin spoke to the occupants of a dark coloured hatchback outside his home.
