Liverpool's had a Yerry Mina, for Uruguay against Colombia on Friday.
The thrilling match saw score in the 11th minute of stoppage time, securing a 3-2 victory after Andres Gomez had equalized just moments before. Despite only being subbed on in the final minutes, Mina found himself at odds with Nunez during several tense exchanges.
The star didn't miss the opportunity to rub salt into the wound, celebrating Ugarte's dramatic goal right in front of Mina. This led to jubilant scenes from the Uruguay players as they moved ahead of their rivals into second place in World Cup qualifying.
Nunez, who played the full match, is maintaining his momentum after starting and scoring in Liverpool's recent 2-0 win over Aston Villa. Despite only starting four times under Arne Slot this Premier League season, he's been called upon more frequently due to an injury to forward Diogo Jota.
With Liverpool leading the table by five points over Manchester City, Nunez will be expected to contribute significantly to the Reds' goal tally this season.
Last month, Slot praised Nunez for his hard work, despite not seeing as much pitch time as he would have liked. "I think about Darwin, I gave him credit for the fact he worked so hard in previous weeks when he didn't play a lot to be able to play three games in a row," Slot said.
"I think three games in eight days, so that says a lot about him - but it also says a lot about the quality of our performance staff and medical staff that we were able to give him the right sessions to prepare him in the right way."
