Darwin Nunez has spoken out after Uruguay's thrilling 3-2 victory over Colombiamidfielder Manuel Ugarte, scored a last-minute goal at the Centenario Stadium on Friday night, securing three vital points for Marcelo Bielsa's side in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

As Ugarte celebrated ending Uruguay's four-match winless run, took the opportunity to taunt former Premier League rival Yerry Mina. The Liverpool striker waswho had been brought on as a substitute in the final moments of the match and had clashed with Nunez.

However, it was the Reds' player who had the final say as Uruguay moved ahead of Colombia to take second place in the South American World Cup qualifying table. "Triumphs like today's are healing in the sense that they bring all the parties that are around such a strong feeling, as in Uruguay it is the national team," Bielsa said during his post-match press conference.

  • "It was essential to win again. Regardless of the way it happened, which was very exciting, it was a necessary victory. We are heading in the right direction."

Following the match, Nunez commemorated the win with a celebratory Instagram post that quickly garnered over 200,000 likes. The Liverpool star wrote: "Claw, football, egg and heart, this is the National Team. Thanks to those who always accompany us!"

Bielsa faced sharp words from none other than Luis Suarez last month as Uruguay's World Cup qualification hopes began to wane. The former Liverpool icon, who hung up his international boots in September, accused the ex-Leeds United manager of causing a rift within the squad, with some players reportedly on the brink of walking away.

Speaking to DSports, a Latin American TV channel, and reported by the BBC, Suarez implored supporters not to vent their frustrations on the team. The current Inter Miami forward remarked: "During Copa América there were situations that hurt me, but I had to stay quiet for respect to the national team.

"A lot of the senior players on the team held a meeting with the manager to ask him to at least say good morning, he wouldn't even say hello. Players are going to reach a limit, they are going to explode."

"There were players that, during Copa América, were saying that they would play the tournament and then they'd stop playing [for Uruguay]," He concluded with a plea: "I ask for people to not to take it out on players if things don't go well. Bielsa has separated the entire group even in the way they train."
