Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal's 'awkward exchange' caught on camera and what happened

An awkward exchange between Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal was caught on camera at London's Gladiator II premiere, last Thursday.

The clip that showed the pair engage in lighthearted exchanges went viral on social media. Now the full video has revealed the complete context of their humorous interaction, where they complimented each other while trading playful remarks.

, 69, remarked to , 49, in a playful tone: “He's not as good an actor as me.” He added: “They’re going to change the name of the movie from Gladiator to Pedro 1,” leaving Pedro in bouts of laughter.

Pedro responded with equal humour: “I only take directions from this guy. I only listen to him.” “Good man. Great actor. Good... I wouldn't call him a friend,” Denzel quipped. To which Pedro exclaimed: “What do you mean?”

“Well I’m saying it’s not like we have tea,” joked Denzel before his wife Pauletta Washington came to join the friendly exchange. Pedro leaning in to greet her then added: “I was just about to say, me and Pauletta are friends.”

Denzel maintained a straight face despite clearly joking then remarked: “Y'all are friends. See how it goes, this is how it goes, Pedro is making time with my wife. If I were in Gladiator, I’d kill Pedro but right now, I won’t do that”.

Denzel and Pedro have collaborated on various projects together and have clearly managed to maintain a solid friendship.

They both starred in The Equalizer 2 back in 2018, where Pedro played Dave York, the main antagonist opposite Denzel’s Robert McCall. The pair also star in the highly anticipated Gladiator 2, directed by Ridley Scott.

Pedro plays General Marcus Acacius, while Denzel takes on the role of Macrinus, a master of gladiators. The eagerly awaited sequel made it theatrical debut last Friday.

Pedro brought his younger sister Lux along to the premiere last week and she stole the show. Posing alongside her older brother, she commanded attention in a full length black gown, featuring a bold slash down her body, with a large emerald holding her dress together. Lux dazzled as she rocked a pair of diamond earrings and subtle make-up which complimented her facial features.

Meanwhile, her older brother opted for a low-cut black shirt, offering a glimpse at his ripped physique. He completed his look with a pair of black trousers and black shoes with two red pins on his collar. Although Pedro is the star of the show, fans couldn't help but gush over Lux's appearance.

Taking to X, formerly known as , one fan said: "I don't know whether to look at Pedro or Lux... the Balmaceda Pascals are going to drive me crazy." A second added: "Lux Pascal and her plus-one, the cutest brother and sister duo. Lux Pascal you will ALWAYS be famous." Another commented: "Lux Pascal gets prettier every time I see her, how is that even possible."
