Disney+ is raising prices again - days after introducing password crackdown

Send Push

Disney+ is raising prices again this month - and you could end up paying up to £24 a year more.

The cost of its Standard plan - which comes with ad-free viewing - is rising from £7.99 a month to £8.99 a month. This marks an increase of £12 over the year. Meanwhile, the price of its Premium package will increase from £10.99 a month to £12.99 a month - so if you have this deal, you’ll be forking out £24 more over 12 months. These price increases will kick in from October 17 for new customers, and from November 21 for existing users.

The price for one-off annual subscribers is also going up. The annual price of a Standard plan will rise from £79.90 to £89.90, while Premium users will see their upfront cost increase from £109.90 to £129.90. The price of the basic Standard with Ads plan will remain the same at £4.99 a month.

If you've been thinking about getting a Disney+ account, you can beat the price increase if you sign up for an annual subscription by October 16. It is also worth checking for Disney+ deals from third-party providers. For example, is giving six months of Disney+ for free to both new and upgrading customers, or you get a year of Disney+ for free if you sign up to Uber One for £59.99. If you're unhappy with the changes, you can cancel your Disney+ package penalty-free.

It comes after a month extra if they share their account with friends and family. The new charge is part of a major crackdown on password sharing - similar to that which introduced last year. Disney+ will now register the devices you use and your “primary residence” to check exactly where you’re using its service. This will be known as your “household” account.

If you try to watch Disney+ away from home then you’ll be asked to verify your subscription using a one-time passcode. This will be sent to the email that is linked to your Disney+ account. But those who are caught sharing their password with someone outside of their household will now be asked to buy a “extra member” profile.

This will cost you an extra £3.99 a month if you have a Standard with Ads plan, or an extra £4.99 a month if you have a Standard or Premium plan. This works out to be just under an extra £60 a year. This “extra member” will only be able to stream on one device at a time, and they can’t have had a Disney+ membership before.
