Emmerdale star bags new role in rival soap after taking major 'risk'

star Emile John has landed a new role in a rival soap after he his character was killed off in the Yorkshire-based soap.

Emile played Ethan Anderson in the soap but earlier this year he was dramatically killed off after initially surviving a hit and run attempt, which left his friend dead in the ensuing car crash. With a court hearing due, Ethan collapsed and died of an undiagnosed brain aneurysm.

Now Emile will be popping up in a rival soap on a rival channel after he confirmed that he will be taking up a guest role in long-running serial drama, Casualty, on the .

Emile had previously shocked fans when he confirmed that Ethan was being killed off in . He told them in a post: "After three years, Ethan’s journey on Emmerdale has come to an end. I feel extremely privileged to have entered this industry working on such an Iconic show.

“I honestly had the time of my life! Sharing the space with such talented folk on and off screen for the last few years has been a huge honour and an experience that’ll stay with me always."

Emile added: “Huge thank you to those of you who have been invested in any of my storylines throughout my time on the show, seeing your reactions and opening important conversations have made it all the more worth it! With Love, Ethan Out.”

In a following Q&A on , Emile also replied to a fan who had said that they hoped to see the actor on the silver screen and a turn in the movies. Emile was liking this and replied: "Me too bruh. Me too."

Speaking about Emile turning to Casualty to continue his soap journey, a source told "Emile took a risk quitting Emmerdale but he wanted to spread his wings and it looks like he's made the right decision. Being on Casualty is a right of passage for many actors and he really enjoyed his stint on the show."

Emile also said goodbye to Emmerdale fans in a video immediately after Ethan was killed off on screen, which the soap shared with its followers. He told soap fans: "Good evening, guys. If you're watching this, then that unfortunately means that Ethan Anderson has passed away and therefore means he will no longer be in the village.

"I just want to say a huge thank you to all the cast and all the crew that I have worked with over these three years. It's absolutely flown by. A lot of the cast have sort of just taken me under their wing. It's been such a ride, such a journey, and one that I've really learned so much on. I want to thank you – the viewers – that have stayed tuned and sort of kept up with Ethan's journey. Thank you so much."
