England interim boss Lee Carsley has provoked fury after admitting his side only trained in the system they used in their defeat to for 20 minutes.
Two goals from Vangelis Pavlidis saw in the Nations League at Wembley. Carsley of the team for the entirety of the Nations League campaign.
The Irishman had been England's Under-21s boss before left his job after Euro 2024. He without a natural striker for the clash against Greece, a system he later admitted his side had little experience with.
"We were second best for a lot of tonight, it is disappointing. You are going to get set backs and it's important we respond. We tried something different and tried to overload the midfield," he told Sport.

"We tried it for 20 minutes yesterday, we experimented, and disappointed it didn't come off. It's unrealistic to expect too much and we will have to try again. It is definitely an option going forward.
"When you have someone of Kane's quality though it rules it out when he is available. But in the future you have to have the courage and ability to try things. We tried something different. It doesn't change anything. My remit is to do the three camps."
Carsley's admission left fans stunned though, with many taking aim at the decision to deploy the false nine system after such little training. His error has left some to insist he should not be handed the job on a permanent basis.

A fourth added: "Sorry, did Lee Carsley actually just say they tried the system for 20 minutes yesterday?! What is this bloke even doing??!???" A fifth questioned: "I wonder if you can spot the flaw in that approach?"
A fifth said: "There is absolutely no way Lee Carsley just said, on live television, that he based his entire gameplan on something he tried for 20 minutes yesterday. This cant be real life?!?"
A sixth fan concluded: Beyond laughable. This is England senior team in a nations league game and he’s almost picked a team that you wouldn’t dream of even on FIFA."
