Naby Keita is making a heartfelt plea to Werder Bremen for another shot at the first team, after disclosing following his strike.
The ex-Liverpool midfielder, who joined Bremen on a free transfer in 2023, has been training solo since being sidelined for upon learning he wasn't in the starting lineup against Bayer Leverkusen in April.
Last season was marred by injuries for Keita, limiting him to just five appearances, and despite discussions with the club after his Olympic Games stint, it seemed likely he'd leave. But no move came to fruition, and now Keita, linked with Sunderland and clubs in Turkey, is eager to return to the fold.
Speaking to , Keita expressed his desire to rejoin the squad: "It is not my decision that I should leave Bremen. For me, the best thing would be to be part of the professional team again tomorrow and play for Werder Bremen."
He also mentioned the fans' confusion on social media, saying, "The fans also keep asking on social media what happened and why I don't play for their club.
"Of course there are also negative messages saying that I would collect the money and don't want to play. But it's not about the money for me, it's the club that made this decision."
In a heartfelt apology sent via WhatsApp to his teammates after refusing to join the team bus back in April, Keita sought forgiveness: "What I did may look like I let the team down just before an important match. I would like to apologize to my teammates who felt let down.
"You should know that this was not my intention. It's hard for me not to be on the pitch with you. I want to give you my full support. I will be your biggest fan."
