Fans make honest admission over actor 'playing same character' in new film

A fresh teaser has landed for a new film with Hollywood icon Liam Neeson in the lead role, and despite fans noticing that his character strikes a familiar chord, they're buzzing to catch a glimpse of his latest action-packed escapade.

Even though some moviegoers believe he's been churning out similar performances, a buzz around his new project remains.

At 72 years old, Neeson reinvented himself as an action juggernaut after the smash hit Taken in 2008, along with its follow-ups.

Neeson wasn't exactly a newcomer to the genre having emerged onto the scene with Darkman in the '90s but its clear there's been a pattern to his roles ever since - for The Grey, The Commuter, Cold Pursuit, and Memory, the actor always seems to play a man with a very particular skill set.

Yet, it appears the public hasn't had its fill of Neeson-centric blockbusters, as his latest movie, Absolution, queues up to join the list, reports the Daily Star.

This time around, Neeson plays an old-school mobster trying to patch things up with his children and straighten out his life's mistakes, all while the shady underbelly of crime refuses to let go without a fight.

The trailer gives us a snapshot of Neeson grappling with a medical update, reaching out to his estranged daughter, and being drawn into a dodgy deal.

One fan went online to say they're keen on the upcoming release despite Neeson's character feeling like deja vu, commenting on X, which took over from Twitter: "He's been playing the same character in every movie and it always interests me."

Another concurred, gushing: "Liam Neeson will always play an older guy that can scrap and I will always watch it."

The film's cast features Neeson alongside Ron Perlman, the latter renowned for his portrayal in Guillermo del Toro's directed Hellboy films and as Clay Morrow on the hit TV show Sons of Anarchy.

A UK release date for Absolution has yet to be confirmed, though it's tipped to hit the cinemas later this year.
