Tragedy struck when an Irish dad-of-three died after being attacked by a swarm of wasps while tending to his garden.
Michael Sheehan, in his mid-50s, is believed to have accidentally disturbed a wasp nest while trimming his hedge in Cork, leading to multiple stings.
The incident occurred just after noon on Tuesday November 5 at his home near Macroom town. Despite the arrival of an air ambulance and immediate medical attention, Mr Sheehan collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been transported to CUH for a post-mortem examination.
Local Cllr Martin Coughlan told CorkBeo: "A man was working in his own garden and suffered a number of wasp stings. He later passed away and an air ambulance was on the scene for approximately an hour."
He added: "This is an incredibly unfortunate incident and I offer my deepest condolences to his family. He was well-known in the area.", reports .
A Garda spokesperson confirmed: "Gardaí and emergency services responded to a report of an incident in Macroom, Co. Cork, on Tuesday 5th November 2024."
They further stated, "A man (50s) was pronounced deceased at the scene. The coroner has been notified."
