Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon lands huge new TV project - but it comes at a price

Rob Brydon has no time to rest - as he is going straight from finishing filming on Gavin and Stacey to start work on a brand new show.

plays Bryn West in - which was created by show stars Ruth Jones and James Corden. He reunited with the cast - which also includes titular character stars Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, who play Gavin Shipman and Stacey West respectively - to film the last ever episode of the show.

Filming on the 2024 special - which is simply titled Gavin & Stacey: The Finale - wrapped on Monday and already Rob is being whizzed off to host a new show called Destination X which is expected to commence filming next week. The new game show is a big budget project for the - which has reportedly splashed £20 million on the series - which will see contestants driven to a mystery location in a blacked out bus and then tasked with trying to identify where they are.

Participants will place an 'X' on a map but will be whittled down one by one as the participant who placed the X furthest from the true destination is eliminated from the show. It seemed the BBC was keen to swoop on Rob to have him front the show - knowing he would be free.

A source told "Destination X is going to be massive for the BBC and they wanted a familiar face to take it on. Rob is very well liked and is incredibly funny, so he seemed the ideal candidate to present the show. Filming begins in the mystery location this week."

The show - which is being co-produced by NBC with US and UK versions of the show being filmed at the same time - was announced back in April and it is reported the BBC is banking on the series becoming as successful as . Kate Phillips, Director of Unscripted at the BBC, said: "Following the huge success of The Traitors, we're really pleased to be partnering once again with NBC on this brilliant new format. The tender process was extremely competitive, but Twofour's innovative and creative vision for the show means that we know we have the perfect producers to take us on this exciting journey. We can't wait to get on board the Destination X bus and bring this exciting new show to a BBC audience."

Meanwhile, Gavin & Stacey recently wrapped filming. Show star James Corden told fans in Billericay, Essex, where final scenes were filmed last month: "Today is our last day in Essex. Everyone in Dinas Powys has been so great to the show so thank you very, very much. It means more to us that you will ever know and we hope that you like the show."
