Horror moment person in car faces bear attack after tempting animal with snack

Send Push

Horror footage shows the frightening moment a person was nearly attacked by a bear after tempting the animal with a snack.

The individual, who has not been identified, was sitting in the passenger side of the car as they hung their arm out of the window whilst holding a treat. The bear then jumps up - seemingly to grab the food - but then attempts to grab the person's arm. Terrified, the passenger pulls their arm back and the car drives forward, as the window is slowly wound back up, as reported by Need To Know.

The shocking moment was captured by a passer-by on the Transfăgărășan road in Romania on Thursday, a highway that runs through the Carpathian mountains. And following the horror footage, locals have slammed the person for trying to feed a wild animal.

Ross posted: "And they still make complaints, really insolent." Bety wrote: "I hope the video got to the police so that they can fine him for feeding the bear", while another user, Dimitru, said: "And if he broke his hand, the animal would be to blame." Meanwhile, Ella said: "Look, this is how foreigners come and feed the bears, they teach them the proximity to people, they leave, and we and the bears bear the consequences!"

The bears on Transfagarasan have become an attraction for tourists, who frequently stop to photograph or interact with them. But these stops often endanger their safety and block traffic on one of the busiest and most spectacular mountain roads.

Authorities have repeatedly issued warnings asking tourists not to feed or approach the bears because such interactions are extremely dangerous. There are believed to be over 200,000 brown bears in the world, of which 6,000 of them roam the mountains surrounding Transfagarasan.

Earlier this year, a Brit tourist was attacked by a bear while taking selfies in her car after spotting the animal as she travelled along a mountain road. The 72-year-old, from Scotland, saw two of the large animals as she took on the Transfăgărășan road in Argeş County, Romania and decided to roll down the window to take a snap. One bear hopped onto its hind legs outside the car and mauled her arm.

Luckily the woman's companion drove away quickly to escape further attack, and the OAP was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after the attack. She told local media: “I come from Scotland.” A reporter asked: “Your arm is okay?” The tourist replied: “No, it’s sore. We were in the car and we were going to take a picture. And the bears came up to the window.” In her hospital bed, the tourist said: “I just wanted to take a picture of him.”
