As a kid, there was nothing better than playing out “on the park” as the sun went down. But you knew that as soon as it got dark, the fun had to stop and it was time to go home.
Not at Minehead’s brand new . This state-of-the-art, multi-sensory playzone lights up the night in all the colours of the rainbow, giving it an almighty wow factor for children who love to stay up late. It’s super-fun in the daytime too, with epic climbing towers, snaking tunnel slides (which light up inside), swings, seesaws and roundabouts.
There’s even an interactive, light-up running game – which is great for getting kids to play together. The £2.5million park is set out over six zones, marked out using colours to reflect the different aspects of play – surprise, excitement, joy, happiness, curiosity and calm. So children can go wild running free across the balance beams, discover a new game, or find a quiet corner and enjoy 18 relaxing sounds of nature.
There’s a cheeky new addition for adults at Butlin’s this year too. From £25 per day, you can now go all-inclusive on the drinks – and it’s not just beer and wine.

The new package includes a whole list of favourite cocktails such as mojitos, pina coladas, daiquiris, Moscow mules and margaritas. There’s a choice of beer including Carling, Madri, Doom Bar, as well as bottles of Peroni and ciders. Go for red or white wine, prosecco, or branded spirits such as Gordon’s Gin, Archers, Bacardi, Jack Daniel’s, Southern Comfort, Smirnoff Red and Malibu with mixers.
For kids aged six to 14, the drinks package is £10, and for under-fives, it’s free. For them, there’s a choice of branded soft drinks including Coca-Cola, Schweppes Lemonade, juices and mocktails. My daughter, Charlotte, loved working her way through these exotic-sounding concoctions – pineapple dream, fruit drop and strawberry burst – complete with a paper cocktail umbrella, much to her delight! What could be better than sitting down to watch The Masked Singer Live! show while sipping one of these fun little numbers?
Yes, the ITV smash hit is back for a second year on stage at Butlin’s and by now everyone knows the drill and is up for some off-the-wall guesses and fog-horn level shouting of “Take it off! Take it off! Take it off!” with more than 1,000 other excited audience members.
Those who are there for the unmasking are sworn to secrecy, but I can tell you this… the celebs at Minehead blew the roof off!
Another superb addition to Butlin’s extensive line-up of entertainment is Gandeys Circus. Set in a proper big top, and hosted by a ringmaster and the very funny Bippo the clown, for an extra £7.50pp you get to witness the hair-raising skills of the high-flying trapeze artists, tightrope walkers, as well as a finale that petrol heads will go wild for.
Then, of course, there are Butlin’s own amazing stage shows, most of which are performed at least twice during a long weekend stay.
Abba fans will love Summer Night City, a glitter-sprinkled, high-energy jukebox medley of hits. But if you want that electric stadium atmosphere, head to Studio 36 for Festivals Rock. Featuring rock and pop classics from the decades, every base is covered from The Beatles to Harry Styles. It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for music fans, along with some excellent tribute acts to Robbie Williams, Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran, playing hit after hit.
The shows are the undoubted big draw at Butlin’s, along with Splashworld Waterpark, with its slides, tubes, waves, raft ride and lazy river. But there are also plenty of much-loved gems dotted around the resort. Who doesn’t love unlimited fairground rides – and getting straight back on your favourite again when there is hardly any queue?
If you fancy testing your mettle at a height, the Butlin’s high ropes course gives you an aerial adventure complete with sea views.
Although they’re billed as “go-karts”, at Butlin’s this is not your average gentle ride around a little course. Daredevils can get in the driving seat of a real petrol racing car with an accelerator and brake, and take a spin around a custom-built race track with fast straights and hairpin bends.
My 14-year-old son, Will, absolutely loved doing battle on the track with the other drivers (£7.50 per ride). If you buy a Butlin’s All-Action Pass (from £20) – you get to race round the track, as well as a game of ten-pin bowling, American pool, adventure golf (at Skegness and Bognor Regis resorts) and a bounce on the bungee trampolines, saving up to £13 on everything.
The dining packages are another great way to enjoy your holiday. From £23.95 for adults and £6.80 per child per day, you get all-you-can-eat breakfasts and buffet evening meals with starters, main courses, and desserts. What I love about Butlin’s is there is no other holiday resort in the UK like it. You simply cannot do such a wide range of activities, see as many quality stage shows, or stay in such a vast array of accommodation from budget-friendly ensuite rooms, through to apartments, hotels, caravans, and the new premium lodges at Butlin’s Skegness – as anywhere else.
