Manchester United legend suggesting that the forward should find a "job somewhere else" if he can't celebrate scoring for the Red Devils.
The 20-year-old Argentine found the back of the net in 's 3-0 triumph over Leicester City on Sunday, but his celebration was noticeably subdued at the Stretford End of Old Trafford. This incident followed a minor spat with a fan prior to United's 2-0 win against PAOK in the Europa League. The supporter had advised Garnacho to "pass better" and "work on his first touch".
Despite this, Garnacho continued signing autographs before retorting to the fan: "Why are you not playing, man?" With seven goals in 18 appearances this season, Garnacho is United's top scorer. However, he has faced backlash from some fans for missing key opportunities and questionable decision-making in crucial moments.
These factors, along with the confrontation with the fan, may have contributed to Garnacho's restrained celebration after his impressive goal against Leicester. Former United skipper Keane has voiced his opinion that Alejandro Garnacho should have put any off-pitch issues aside and joined in the celebrations with the fans at Old Trafford.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane remarked: "If you can't celebrate a goal, there is something drastically wrong with this game. Whatever has gone on off the pitch for any player – it could be family stuff – you work all week, you're playing the game to score a goal.
"When you score a goal, there should be nothing else on your mind. You've got fans who have travelled, paid fortunes to get there, and he's [Alejandro Garnacho] on about people having a go at him. People make sacrifices to travel to watch Manchester United, he scores a brilliant goal, they are having a tough time – and if a younger player can't enjoy scoring a goal for Man United, then get a job somewhere else."
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes, the current captain of United, shared his thoughts on Garnacho's subdued reaction after netting a goal. In a post-match interview with the BBC, Fernandes explained: "Garnacho scored a banger but didn't celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans. I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do. I told him to celebrate, it was something special."
He also praised Garnacho's talent, saying, "He is a special player, we have difference makers. They are the ones who win us games. We want them to score every game but that isn't going to happen."
