Most people preparing spuds for dread having to peel the vegetable, which can be time-consuming and difficult, especially if they have a meal to put together after a hard day's work. One woman has shared her new method that saves valuable time, and doesn't require a peeler. After removing them from the pan, she casually slips off the skins, which had become separated from the main vegetable thanks to the millimetres-deep circular cuts. She even appeared to shock herself after trying the method on camera, saying: "So crazy that's incredible!" Millions of people have since watched the video, with thousands more commenting their shock underneath and promising to try it out themselves. After the footage went viral - fetching more than 23.9 million total views - one commenter said the discovery was "important information", expressing their shock in all caps, with a second adding: "I've learned more on the TikTok than anywhere else."
A third commenter said: "Literally just got done peeling 20 potatoes and open TikTok and this is the first video I see." Many people in the US commenting on the post spoke of how handy it could be ahead of Thanksgiving, one of the most potato-heavy national holidays.
One TikTok user mused: "Thank God I found this before I peel 500 potatoes tomorrow!" A second, speaking about the moment they found the video before the American holiday last year, said: "I saw this right before Thanksgiving & this has changed my life." Multiple people were shocked that the TikTokers peeled the potatoes at all.
One said: "I don't even peel potatoes... everyone getting the skin lol." Another added: "People take the peel off? That's wild, literally all the fiber is in the peel, along with a good chunk of other nutrients." A third shocked TikToker added: "Who takes the skin off?! that's the best part!!!"
One user was hesitant to give the genius hack a try, and jokingly threatened to sue if they were forced to "peel mushy potatoes" if they found it didn't work. Writing in the comments section, they said: "If I try this and it doesn’t work and I have to peel mushy potatoes I’m suing."
