I'm A Celebrity icon Nicola McLean reveals surprising detail of her infamous eating trial

Nicola McLean has revealed just how bad the infamous challenges on ... Get Me Out of Here! are.

Speaking to the Mirror's Will Foxx, the WAG revealed the reason she actually WANTED to take on the gruesome eating trial during her stint in the jungle and recalled how a joke to presenters and got taken the wrong way during the Bushtucker Trial.

Nicola, who is the Mirror's official 2024 I'm A Celebrity columnist, appeared on the reality series back in 2008, finishing up in sixth place following her eviction on Day 18. But before becoming the seventh celebrity to get out of there, Nicola enjoyed a slap-up meals of animal testicles and eyeballs.

Tackling the trial dubbed I Scream Van alongside legend and eventual King of the Jungle , Nicola wolfed down three crocodile eyes, silkworms, crickets and a kangaroo's testicle. The former glamour model headed back to camp victorious, where she asked her fellow campmates if she could fall pregnant thanks to scoffing on the animal testicle.

"Obviously that was a joke but I remember the papers wrote about that as if I was being serious!" Nicola told Will during their chat earlier this evening. "I was obviously joking and no how to give newspapers a good line, because everyone loves it, but the trials are worse than you see on telly!"

She went on to reveal: "The eating trial... [points at her teeth] with these veneers there is no way I would be able to do it now. The kangaroo testicle and eyeball were so tough I had to push down to help me chew it, so no chance I could do it these days. I really wanted the eating trial though! I must be one of the only people who did. It is the most memorable trial and, as such a huge fan of the show, I wanted to grab the show with both hands and I felt so privileged to get it I was feeling like I wouldn't have felt like I had completed [the challenge of the show] if I hadn't eaten a testicle.".

Nicola's trip down memory lane follows the star revealing what she really thinks of pals and Rebekah Vardy's feud hitting the spotlight once again thanks to Coleen's stint in the jungle. With Rebekah's new column in The Sun stirring the pot, Nicola has weighed in, predicting that this could lead to the "funniest I'm A Celebrity yet".

As the Mirror's I'm A Celebrity columnist, she expressed her thoughts: "This is why I say Rebekha Vardy is unapologetically her, because I don't know anybody else who'd want to do a column writing about Coleen Rooney after all this drama. But you've got to love it. We all love a WAG drama and the fact that Becky is going to give us more for the next three weeks is utterly genius."

She does have one niggling worry though: "I do worry though that if Coleen is doing really well, is Becky going to say she's doing well? I don't know. Wagatha is the gift that keeps on giving. Coleen going into the jungle and Rebekah commenting on it - who would have thought it? They're doing Ant and Dec's job for them."

Nicola continued, "They're going to have so much material to work on. This could be the funniest I'm A Celebrity yet. I admire strong women and both of these girls are strong in different ways. Can't wait to see Coleen in the jungle and can't wait to see what has got to say about it."

Fans can catch Nicola's live takes on I'm A Celebrity every Monday on the Mirror's social media platforms, and look forward to her column in next Sunday's paper.
