A cinema staff member has spoken out about the snacks they say you should avoid when watching a movie on the big screen to avoid getting ill. They said they worked for a local cinema in their youth, which opened their eyes to the practices at some big screens.
Taking to , they revealed: "I worked in a cinema when I was a teen and I would now never ever get any food that’s not pre packaged or uncovered food. Things like toppings for (cheese, jalapeños, salsa) are left out barely covered for to go all over. And not refrigerated the entire day either. Old popcorn left over is bagged up and reheated for the next day as well."
Not only this, but they claim many cinema workers at their branch would handle food without first putting gloves on. Sharing a 'safe' cinema snack, they added: "Only thing I would get is the popcorn or chocolate packs / ice cream tubs sort of thing."

Seconding this, another former employee, who worked in a cinema between 2008 to 2009, says they would avoid ordering nacho cheese after seeing how it's stored and prepared. They said: "When I worked for a cinema chain in 2008-2009 the cheese sauce came in a big can. We had to decant it into tubs and water it down then microwave it. That is what gave it the more runny consistency to be ladled over the nachos.
Popcorn is also nasty as the leftovers in the evening are bagged up and then put back into the warmers the next day." In agreement, yet another worker added: "Yeah the cheese and the way they handle it is disgusting, makes my stomach churn to think about."
While another Reddit user shared how they'd stay clear of the pick 'n' mix, saying: "Yeah after working in a cinema pick 'n' mix is the thing that horrified me. The things I saw kids do before putting their hands all over it, I feel sick just thinking about it."
