Inside John Tororde's near-fatal horse riding accident - 'I had a lucky escape'

John Tororde has spoken about his which left him in hospital.

He has said that he "had a lucky escape" and it could've been a lot more serious that it was. The TV chef was thrown twice from the saddle on Day in 2016 before ending up in St Mary’s in Paddington, central London.

At the time wife Lisa Faulkner shared a photo of John while in hospital wearing a gown and a neck brace. He then took to his own X, formerly known as , page to thank those who helped him.

He wrote: "'I really am OK everyone! Thank you, just took a tumble whilst out riding and posted the photo to thank the Docs, nurses and all at St Mary's. Thank you all for your kind wishes. I really am ok but a massive thank you to St. Mary's & the for everything."

Meanwhile, actress Lisa shared her own message, writing: "Thank you for all your lovely get well wishes! @JohnTorode1 is well and happy and sitting on the sofa and all is good." John and Lisa have recently opened up about the horse riding accident that happened almost eight years ago.

In an interview John, 59, recalled: "I felt like I had nine lives after I fell off." Presenter and chef Lisa, 52, added: "He got thrown off twice. It was pretty awful." The pair opened up as they talked about their hit show John & Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen as it returns for its ninth series.

They have also written their first cookbook together to accompany the Saturday morning programme. The couple tied the knot back in 2019.

John shares two adult children from a previous relationship of his as well as two adult children from his first marriage. Lisa has an adopted daughter with her ex-husband.

Lisa and John make sure that they go on date nights together and keep fit after meeting back in 2010 when Lisa won Celebrity MasterChef. John said: "From my point of view, you can’t give anything to anybody if you can’t look after yourself. We are both really aware of that. We both enjoy our yoga and our stretching and I love my bike riding. We both really like the sunshine and we go for a walk most mornings.

"We’re pretty grateful and feel quite honoured in doing what we’re doing. It sounds a bit corny, but you just have to look after yourself. I’m not getting any younger, and I don’t want to be shrivelled up and not able to do stuff."
