Good Morning Britain's Ranvir Singh interrupted Tuesday's edition of the chat show to deliver some breaking news.

During the latest instalment, Ranvir, 47, was delivering her news segment where she alerted viewers at home to some breaking news.

Ranvir revealed that unemployment rates in the UK have risen as she announced: "Some breaking news for you, the rate of unemployment has risen.

"Official figures just released show that for the three months up to September, UK unemployment reached 4.3%. That's up from 4% and it's actually higher than experts had predicted.

"I'm afraid there's also bad news for working people, the rate in which earnings are rising have actually slowed down in the first three months after Labour came into power, falling to 2.7% once inflation is taken into account. Those figures coming from The Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the last hour."

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the rate of UK unemployment rose to 4.3% in the three months to September, up from 4% in the previous three months and far higher than the 4.1% pencilled in by most economists.

This was the highest level since the three months to May, although the ONS said the estimate should be treated with caution given ongoing low response rates to its jobs survey.

Meanwhile, wage growth has fallen to its lowest level in more than two years. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said average regular earnings growth eased back to 4.8% in the three months to September, down from 4.9% in the previous three months. This marked the lowest level since the three months to June 2022.

Earnings growth continues to outstrip inflation, however, as pay increased by 2.7% in the three months to September with Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation taken into account.
