’s new reality show has his wife, Lady Helena, admitting she fears there will be consequences to the couple and their six children appearing on TV.
“I hope I don’t get a ‘cease and desist’ letter from Johnnie Boden," she says, referring to the man who runs the upmarket children's clothing company. "’Can you please not wear my clothes you awful, Tory, right-wing, , Brexiteer?’" is what she imagines he might want to say. And her husband is also braced for the backlash, declaring: ““I am well aware there are risks with reality TV. I think this will be a really different kettle of fish from the Kardashians.” Asked if she felt “love at first sight” for the former Tory cabinet minister, his wife, 47, confesses: “Er, no. Obviously I didn’t tell him that.”

The series, filmed at their huge 17th century Somerset pile, follows the entire household, including five staff, through the disastrous 2024 election in which Rees-Mogg lost his seat. “Extraordinary things can happen and one should never give up until the last minute,” he says, before becoming one of the highest profile Tory casualties in July, losing his seat in North East Somerset to Labour’s Dan Norris.
“I’m not a dog, I don’t like my wounds, life goes on,” he reflects in a trailer for the show. “What next, should always be the question.”
Admitting he is a polarising character, Rees-Mogg, 55, says: “I’ve been involved in some political controversies. I’m afraid, and this is probably a sin, I quite enjoy winding people up.”
His sixth child, Sixtus, was born in 2017 - a brother for older siblings Peter, Mary, Thomas, Anselm and Alfred. The children admit to knowing they don’t have ordinary lives, with Mary saying: “We have quite post accents, so yeah. If we’re being real, we’re quite posh.” One of her brothers declares: “In Somerset, we have a mansion.”
One of the younger boys says his dad’s best quality is that he’s “funny”, but his brother immediately contradicts him, insisting: “He’s very unfunny”.
And one housekeeper sighs: “He does like his boxers to be ironed.”
Rees-Mogg says he has a male butler Sean Goodwin, who “does everything that needs to be done in a big household”, admitting: “I’m just lazy, that’s all.” One of the tasks Sean has is cleaning graffiti which says “POSH T**T” from a sign.
The series, which starts on December 2 on Discovery+, shows the family going fox hunting as well as Jacob banging the dinner gong and holding weekly Saturday night black-tie dinners.
