James Martin clashes with guests on Saturday Morning as he says 'you've ruined it'

James Martin didn't hold back in today's (November 16) episode of the favourite as he passionately defended a crucial component, while another condiment would "ruin" the dish.

The celebrity chef was joined by sports presenter Jake Humphrey, fellow culinary experts Tony Tobin and Shivi Ramoutar, and cocktail wizard Merlin Griffiths.

The segment that really got James fired up was when he set out to show viewers how to whip up the ultimate roast dinner.

Tony lent a hand as they embarked on making Yorkshire puddings, sticking closely to James' grandmother's cherished recipe.

When it came to the beef, James shared his preference for roasting it with garlic and onions, which he then uses to enrich his gravy.

Tony questioned the method: "Why do people cook a big joint on veg because the veg goes black. Does the flavour go onto the meat then?", reports .

James was adamant that onion gravy is essential to the dish, although he acknowledged that his stance might stir up some debate. He declared: "Now this is where it gets controversial. You've got to have onion gravy."

Tony interjected, suggesting: "Well it's debatable." But James was having none of it, countering: "Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was intended in Yorkshire, you put onions in the gravy, it's as simple as that."

Visibly annoyed, James exclaimed: "You lot have just ruined it by coming down South. Don't get me on my high horse."

Serving up the dish to his guest, James cautioned with a sense of urgency: "Now don't go and ruin this. Do not go and ruin this. Do not reach for horseradish."

The kitchen was filled with audible shock as James went on to say: "Horseradish should be banned because it's the food of the devil."

Shivi, puzzled, inquired: "Why not horse radish." James couldn't hide his exasperation as he replied sharply: "I've just sweated and worked so hard then you want to go and cover it up with some rancid white stuff that tastes disgusting. It's vile."

Jake chimed in to offer a word of advice, noting: "Never get into a debate about Sunday roast with James Martin." When Shivi questioned the absence of vegetables, pointing out: "So no greens? No need for anything green."

James was markedly taken aback, responding almost breathlessly: "Greens, greens, greens? Next she will be saying we can do this in the air fryer, what are you doing? Greens."

James Martin's Saturday Morning airs at 9:30am on ITV1 and ITVX.
