Liverpool legend has urged his former club to make , suggesting a move for Martin Zubimendi could bolster its title chances.

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes had a relatively quiet first transfer window at Liverpool, with . The Italian made his move from Juventus in late August in a deal that could reach $15.2 million.

Additionally, Liverpool , but the Georgian international won't be making his move to Anfield until next summer. They also faced rejection from Martin Zubimendi when they attempted to entice the Spanish international away from Real Sociedad.

There was some frustration among Liverpool fans over the summer due to the limited incoming business. However, both new head coach Slot and new sporting director Hughes remained confident in the strength of the squad they inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

Three months later, after seeing Liverpool win 15 out of their 17 matches this season, topping both the Premier League and Champions League tables, and reaching the quarter-finals of the League Cup, their faith in the squad has certainly been vindicated. With players like Ryan Gravenberch shining in the No. 6 role after the failed deal for Zubimendi, and Ibrahima Konate and Luis Diaz improving under Slot, Liverpool's squad looks robust and has managed to handle several injuries well.

As the January transfer window looms, some Liverpool fans are undoubtedly hoping for mid-season reinforcements. Traditionally, the Reds have been quiet during the winter window, and it would be surprising if January 2025 were any different.

And despite Gravenberch's impressive form, Carragher wants to see an addition in January. Speaking on , Carragher said: "If I was Liverpool I would be doing that (strengthening in January). Zubimendi is the player he wanted, they ended up putting Gravenberch there who has been fantastic, but if he is the player you want - go and do it - you might never be in this position.

"You might be here three years but City are City and they are five points ahead of you at Christmas. Just make it count."

Liverpool had their sights set on Zubimendi and was ready to trigger his $64.8 million release clause last summer, yet the player opted to stay at Real Sociedad. Despite this, The Athletic indicates Liverpool's interest hasn't waned, even as Sociedad braces for change with the anticipated departure of their long-serving sporting director Roberto Olabe when the season concludes.
