Josh Widdicombe is set to take to the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor in just a few weeks as he signed up for the special.

The comedian, 41, famed for his appearances on The Last Leg and Live At The Apollo, became the first star confirmed to appear on this year’s festive competition.

Ahead of his show debut, the star has been getting stuck into work in the rehearsal studio as he opened up on his experience and admitted “I thought I’d be terrible.”

During an appearance on Saturday Kitchen, host Matt Tebbutt asked Josh how it was going so far and he replied: "It's going well.”

The TV star continued: "I'm loving it, I think. I don't know. I thought I was going to be terrible and I'm just bad." Chef Niklas Ekstedt was also on the show and chimed in and asked: "Do they pay you for doing that?"

Swerving the question, Josh said: "On a TV show, that's never been the follow-up question. 'What's the breakdown of the finances for this tour that you're promoting?'"

Moving the conversation on, Josh said: "It's really fun and my daughter's seven and she's a huge fan. I brought her to training to meet Karen and that was really nice."

Speaking about signing up for the show, Josh said: “I am utterly terrified this will end in humiliation and worried I’m going to be so bad I will ruin Christmas for the nation. Why have I done this?”

Elsewhere in the show, Josh claimed Strictly is taking over his life as he said: “It's kind of overshadowing everything else right now in my life.

"Yeah, I agreed to do Christmas Strictly, and I'll be honest, I feel now like I'm a dancer that occasionally does comedy.

“It's quite full on, and I've had more messages from people in my life more excited about that than the rest of my career put together.”

Josh will be partnered with long-standing Strictly pro Karen Hauer for a pre-recorded show that will air on Christmas Day.

So far, he is one of three stars who have been confirmed as he joins RuPaul’s Drag Race UK queen Tayce and TV presenter Vogue Williams.

Tayce is paired up with Kai Widdrington, while Vogue will dance with Carlos Gu. The rest of the line-up will be confirmed in the upcoming days.

Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Christmas Day
