Julian Nagelsmann responds to Jurgen Klopp's new job and 'Germany clause'

Germany boss Julien Nagelsmann has congratulated Jurgen Klopp on his new role at Red Bull, despite speculation over a 'Germany clause' that would allow the former manager to depart if the role becomes available.

Klopp is set to over the likes of RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and New York Red Bulls. The 57-year-old's move to the company has given Leipzig's standing and it's opposition to what are considered Borussia Dortmund ideals, but Nagelsmann has only well wishes.

The national team coach, who has a contract until after the 2026 World Cup, previously managed Leipzig and led the club to the semi-final. While Nagelsmann may want to support his former side, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has also , despite now being a rival.

Nagelsmann revealed that Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff informed him of Klopp's arrival early. The 37-year-old coach quickly offered his congratulations.

"I’ve congratulated Oliver Mintzlaf to an amazing coup, also Klopp for a great job," said Nagelsmann. "A super interesting job. He’ll do well. For both sides it’s a win-win. I was happy. Oli has informed me early."

Klopp's role wit h Red Bull takes him away from the touchline but he appears to be interested in one avenue in returning. that the ex-Mainz manager has inserted an exit clause in his contract that would allow him to leave specifically for the German national team job.

For the moment, Klopp is simply excited to tackle his new position and to provide mentorship to Red Bull's portfolio of clubs. H e said: “After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this.

"The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not. By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal.

"There are many ways that we can do this front using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries. Together we can discover what is possible.

"I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately, I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking. As I said, this could not excite me more."
