’s relocated memorial is bursting with notes and tributes ahead of his funeral later today.
The star initially had a memorial in the city centre started by fans, with gifts and messages left on a statue of medieval noblewoman Lady Wulfrun, located just outside a church in Liam’s hometown. Wolverhampton Council ahead of Remembrance Sunday, but encouraged fans to use a new site they’d transferred the tributes to.
"Ahead of Sunday and Monday’s Remembrance services at the Cenotaph, the council has respectfully relocated the tributes left in memory of Liam Payne to the bandstand at West Park. People are welcome to leave any tributes to Liam at the memorial at the bandstand,” the Council wrote on at the time.
One fan showed off the success of the new site, posting photos of the old Lady Wulfrin memorial compared to the thriving bandstand offerings. “How it started vs 1 month later,” they wrote on Twitter, along with a dove emoji. “Liam Payne Memorial in Wolverhampton.”
The photos showed the new site flooded with gifts from fans, including candles, teddy bears, photos, flowers, and long letters. Responding to the photos, other social media users expressed how emotional the memorial made them.
“It's honestly so beautiful. I've not been since it was moved but I'm going on Wednesday when I'm next up in the centre so will get some photos then. Our boy would be so proud,” one person wrote.
“Still can't believe it. Is he really gone? Forever? How did it all go so wrong so fast? Why is life so fragile? It wasn't supposed to be like this. He was here just last month. Everything was just fine. It was supposed to stay that way,” a second shared.
Liam on the 16th October, after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His body was released to his father, Geoff Payne, at the beginning of November, after a post-mortem and a meticulous investigation into his death. While the post-mortem showed that Liam died from multiple injuries as well as internal and external bleeding, in connection with his death: one, Liam's friend, Rogelio 'Roger' Nores was accused of abandonment, while two hotel employees were charged with supplying illegal drugs.
Liam’s family is now in the process of putting the together, which will be held in the Home Counties. Early this morning, deliveries of flowers and candles were seen being placed around the entrance and path to the church ahead of the intimate ceremony.
The location of Liam’s funeral is not being released to the public so as to allow his close family and friends the opportunity to grieve in private. The event will mark the first time , with - who formed the band on - also expected to be in attendance.
