Liverpool's Curtis Jones compared to Zinedine Zidane as even Everton icon can't hide delight

Liverpool midfielder scored a as he made his debut for the Three Lions against Greece. Capping a comfortable win in the UEFA Nations League, the Reds ace with a backheeled flick that was planted right in the bottom corner.

"My goodness me, Zinedine Zidane would have been proud of that!" BBC Radio 5Live's chief football correspondent, John Murray, said in Athens. And the former and England midfielder Leon Osman was equally as impressed.

"Jones has looked very assured in the middle of the pitch, has looked composed particularly when receiving the ball in his own area, he is unflustered, defended excellently and scored a back heel to top it all off," he said. "Wonderful evening for him."

Jones has often struggled for consistency in his career to date, picking up ill-timed injuries just when he has broken into the starting XI. But in the last few weeks, he has been flying, fulling deserving of his national team chance.

"You dream of scoring backheels in general play, never mind on your debut for your country," Osman continued. "We all thought Morgan Gibbs-White was going to pull the trigger himself but he pulls it across and Curtis Jones flicks the ball into the far corner."

Liverpool.com says: When he is in the kind of form that he is at the moment, Jones should be nailed on to be in the England squad and arguably in the first team. He has everything that you need for a top-level player in that position and will hope to kick on for Liverpool in the next few weeks too.

Jones was sensational against Chelsea recently and has backed that up with more good performances. He has always been someone who needs a bit of time to get into his flow, but once he is there, he has a very high ceiling. He should be eyeing up a regular spot in Thomas Tuchel's team in the build up to the World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada.
