One mince pie-avoiding individual has hilariously admitted to avoiding the festive treat their entire life under the mistaken belief that it contained meat.
The revelation that the pies are actually brimming with sweet fruits like raisins and sultanas left them gobsmacked. Feeling completely out of the loop, they took to under the handle u/Vril_Maiden to share their confusion: "Is the entire planet in on the same joke? Why does everybody say there is mince in them?"
They continued, expressing their bewilderment at the universal response they received when questioning the contents: "Whenever you ask somebody why they're eating that or what is in them they will all look at you with this blank stare as if you're slow and say, 'mince' in the same tone as if to suggest, 'how could you not know this moron, its mince. There's mince in it'.

Is this a collective inside joke that old people do to wind up kids or something?" Reflecting on past interactions, they added: "Now that I look back, I can see that everybody seems to actively tried to avoid telling me what was in it but instead they were actively trying to lead me astray and to believe there was mince in it."
They concluded with a sense of exasperation: "I don't understand how every adult in the seems to be collectively in on this joke."
A baffled parent has taken to social media to vent their confusion over the contents of mince pies, sparking a flurry of equally perplexed and humorous responses. "Does something take place around 40 where the government sends everyone a letter informing you to try to trick and manipulate every child on earth into thinking there is meat in them and to actively refuse to ever tell them what is in it when they ask?" they questioned, bewildered by the misleading name of the festive treat.
"Otherwise, I cannot understand what has taken place here." Their frustration was echoed by another who shared: "My wife was the same and discovered last year what they actually are, and that she really likes them."
They recounted how for a decade, their partner believed the pies contained raw meat, which was then bizarrely paired with custard or ice cream.
Adding to the chorus of disillusionment, someone else admitted: "Weirdly I've always avoided them since I first tried one at a young age because it lacked meat. I was expecting a mince meat pie all excited and that and it's b***** awful fruit and s***. F****** pies of lies."
The history of the mince pie dates back to the early middle ages, as noted on the Walkers Shortbread website, with Henry VII reportedly being a fan. These original pies were indeed filled with minced meat, fruit, and preserving liquid, serving as a method to preserve meat before the advent of modern refrigeration techniques.
