Man Utd show their hand in Viktor Gyokeres race despite Ruben Amorim concerns

Manchester United sent one of their top scouts to watch Viktor Gyokeres during the international break as speculation over the striker's future continues to grow.

The star, 26, after flourishing in Portugal since moving overseas last summer and is expected to depart for big money at the end of the season.

United have after earlier this month - and it seems as though they are ramping up their due diligence ahead of a potential summer swoop.

But United will not have been alone in running the rule over the former Coventry City man, who has been in red-hot for the Portuguese champions again this term after netting 43 times last season.

are also known to be keen on Gyokeres, who it's believed will be available for a sum far lower than his £85.3million release clause. But United's appointment of Amorim could give them the edge if a transfer battle ensues.

While the appeal of working under Amorim again at Old Trafford could make a move hard for Gyokeres to turn down, Amorim has already alluded to the fact that with Sporting or the club's fanbase following his exit.

As such, he has vowed that will not be raiding his old club in the January transfer window - but he stopped short of ruling out deals in windows beyond that, such as next summer.

He said: “I’m not going to get any players from Sporting in January. Gyokeres costs €100million and it’s very difficult.”

Gyokeres also attempted to cool talk of a move this week, saying that there had been contact with his former boss over a future transfer. He explained: “He [Amorim] probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see.

“No, he hasn’t [asked me to join him]. It’s fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it’s talk and nothing concrete.”
