Man Utd star Andre Onana gives emphatic response when asked about Ruud van Nistelrooy

Van Nistelrooy oversaw the third of his four games as United's interim manager on Thursday night. United ended a 13-month winless run in Europe by thanks to a second-half brace from Amad.

Former United striker Van Nistelrooy arrived in the summer as an assistant to Erik ten Hag and stepped into the void when his fellow Dutchman . He has now overseen two wins and a draw and has one further match against in the this weekend before Amorim takes over on Monday.

Van Nistelrooy , saying he hasn't spoken to Amorim and doesn't know whether he will stay on in a coaching capacity under the Portuguese. But it is clear that the players would like the incoming manager to retain his services.

Asked by TNT Sports if he wanted Van Nistelrooy to stay, United goalkeeper Andre Onana replied decisively: "100 per cent. He is a very good guy and a very good coach. He has so much experience and he has done amazing since he has been here.

"We've had him for a few days as a head coach and the players are happy but it's not something we can decide. The club made a decision and we have to accept because they have the final decision."

Amad has impressed Van Nistelrooy with his enthusiasm and professionalism in training and has enjoyed working with him also. "Since he has arrived at he has been very important for everyone," he said post-match.

The man himself has remained tight-lipped on his future and is purely focusing on Sunday's game against Leicester - a team they thrashed 5-2 in the Carabao Cup last week.

Van Nistelrooy told TNT Sports: "For me it was important to get results. I can only be happy with the performance that the players put in. I enjoy it but Sunday is another one and I'm so focused on doing that so I'm not thinking of what is next."

Van Nistelrooy's former team-mate Paul Scholes believes he is ready for a management role, even if it's not at Old Trafford. "Ruud van Nistelrooy looks like a manager when you see him on the sideline," he said.

"He speaks well, he is nice and calm and he goes about his business really well. I'm pretty sure he will have the bug back to being a manager, going back to an assistant it must be quite frustrating."

Former United assistant Rene Meulensteen also assessed the situation on Radio 5 Live: "When you come into a new environment you have to get used to the players and staff.

"They will have their own ideas, but the key is having your own ideas. You need a few people with you to make sure that message gets across quickly and that it's a consistent message."
