"It's the management team that's running Manchester United that have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects. But that team that's running Manchester United has only been together since June or July.

"They weren't there in January, February, March or April – Omar, Dan Ashworth - they only arrived in July. They've only been there… you can count it in weeks almost - they've not been there a long time, so they need to take stock and make some sensible decisions.

That decision will be based on recommendations from Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox, given they are the ones working closely with Ten Hag on a daily basis. Berrada and Ashworth did give the Dutchman their public backing last month, but that was right before United were beaten 3-0 by rivals .

Since the briefing, United have failed to win five of their seven games across all competitions, with their only victories coming over winless in the Premier League and League One side Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
