McCain confirms best way to cook chips - Brits have been doing it wrong

The chances are that if you’ve got an at home you always use it to cook your chips - but according to McCain this is not always the best method. While some can be cooked in air fryers, McCain has revealed that not all chips should be airfryed. Instead explaining that there are specific types of chips that it’s best to cook in the oven, rather than simply tossing them into your air fryer.

Talking about their ‘luxurious beef dripping chips’ that have been created to offer a ‘pub grub’ like experience at home, McCain - who aim to bring you the best frozen chips - has revealed that they’re actually best cooked in the oven, rather than being cooked in an air fryer. The brand recommends that it’s best to pop their Gastro Chips ‘into the oven for 25-30 minutes until golden and crispy’.

McCain also has another hack to share - this one is for ensuring chips are cooked to perfection and come out fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. They recommend that it’s best to always ‘cook from frozen’ and to opt to use a baking dish with ‘no holes’ in it, as this ensures that the chip’s coating or the beef dripping they’re being cooked in, doesn’t fall out of the tray while cooking.

McCain explained: “Here’s how to cook 500g of McCain Triple Cooked Gastro Chips. If cooking a different amount, adjust the cooking time accordingly. To get the best results cook from frozen, our instructions are guidelines only. For the most delicious results, do not overcook!”, with the brand adding that these chips are ‘not suitable for air fryers’.

They also explain that for perfectly cooked chips, you need to ‘preheat the oven to 220°C Fan/Gas Mark 8’, and then pop a ‘deep tray with no holes’ into the oven for five minutes to preheat. Once the tray is hot, you then ‘spread chips in a single layer’ placing the dish in the top of the oven, leaving them to bake for ‘25-30 minutes turning occasionally’ to ensure a ‘crispy golden finish’.
