Michael Schumacher's 'future daughter-in-law' breaks 'ring of steel' around sportsman

The family ring of steel around Michael Schumacher has been broken.

The sportsman was once the biggest name in motorsport but a tragic skiing accident in 2013 saw him completely vanish from the public eye. Ever since the incident 11 years ago, his family have worked tirelessly to maintain his privacy and kept his condition under lock and barrel.

His wife, Corinna Schumacher is reportedly the mastermind behind the plan and decides who visits her husband. However, this move is said to have caused friction among the family over the years. However, one person from outside of the family has been given special permission to spend time with Michael and the Schumacher family.

Bosnian-born model Laila Hasanovic is said to be adored by Michael and his wife Corinna. The 24-year-old has been dating Michael's son Mick for the past 18 months and is believed to be the only girlfriend to ever be allowed to meet the motorsports icon. German news outlet, Bild, claims that the Schumacher family are "smitten" by Laila who is frequently invited to family events.

She was also photographed with Corinna at the FIA World Endurance Championship back in March earlier this year. Like Corinna, family holds a special place in Laila's heart. Speaking previously about her mum, she said: "I have the closest relationship with my mum, she's literally my best friend."

The model also made it clear that she's a supporter of Schumacher Snr after fans spotted a touching nod to Michael. Laila emptied her bag onto her bed to show her Instagram followers and her AirPods case was on full display. The case was engraved with two signs, one being the rock on gesture and the second was a circle with the number 47 in the middle.

Fans noticed the 47 – which was Michael's racing number during his career. Mick has also never shied away from discussing his love with Laila. Speaking to RTL, he said: "I'm really happy," adding that he "doesn't want to hide" his relationship. Could Laila being introduced to Michael mean that his family are preparing to open up about his condition?

This weekend saw his daughter, Gina, 27, marry Iain Bethke at the Schumacher family villa in Mallorca, with the whole family being invited. However, no guests were allowed to take photographs on their phones during Gina and the showjumper's wedding. It's believed that Michael had also been surrounded by his extended family members for the first time in over a decade.

In 2013, the family was changed forever when Michael crashed while skiing in the French Alps, striking his head against a rock. His helmet took most of the impact, but his brain injury was still severe, and after undergoing two life-saving operations, the legend spent months in a medically induced coma. From the minute of the ordeal, Michael's family did their best to keep the details of his condition out of the public eye, although a few updates were given.

In the immediate aftermath, it was confirmed that Michael was fighting for his life and in critical condition. Another statement wasn't released until April 2014, when the family shared that Michael had shown 'moments of consciousness and awakening'. The following summer, it was confirmed that Michael was out of the coma and had been moved to a rehabilitation facility. By September 2014, Michael had been brought back to his family home on Lake Geneva in September 2014, where he was cared for around the clock by Corinna and a team of medics. Having dedicated herself to guarding her husband's dignity, Corinna has permitted only a select few trusted friends and relatives to visit him, under strict protocols. Meanwhile, it's understood only a handful of people know the details of Michael's condition and care, which remain shrouded in mystery.

But speaking in the Netflix documentary Schumacher back in 2021, Corinna said: "We're trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives. It's very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael."
