The move to Ferrari would have been a significant boost for Schumacher, who has struggled to live up to his father's legacy. Despite his on-track struggles, his surname still carries significant weight in the racing world, making him a valuable asset for marketing purposes.
Ferrari had reportedly considered signing Schumacher to replace Antonio Giovinazzi, who is set to move to IndyCar. There was also a chance that this opportunity could have been used as a way to manoeuvre his way back into F1 through the reserve driver role.
It's believed that negotiations may have collapsed due to his contractual obligations with Alpine. Furthermore, other reports suggest that his current position as Mercedes' reserve driver may have added to the complications.
Schumacher made his F1 debut in 2021, instantly attracting attention. Despite the hype surrounding his name, Schumacher also turned heads when he clinched the Formula 2 World Championship in 2020 while racing for Prema.
He then became a test driver for Alfa Romeo and Haas, before securing a full-time driving position with the latter in 2021. After two seasons, which saw him record disappointing 16th and 22nd finishes, Haas replaced him with Nico Hulkenberg.
Since then, he has raced with Alpine's WEC team and served as a reserve driver at Mercedes. Schumacher has been linked with various positions, but is yet to see any of those rumours come to fruition.
He was recently linked with a move to Williams as a replacement for Logan Sargeant, but they decided to promote from within by selecting Franco Colapinto. He had also reportedly been in consideration with Sauber, before they eventually opted to bring in Gabriel Bortoleto, who was leading the Formula 2 championship at the time.
