Newcastle pays Liverpool ultimate transfer compliment as $68m double deal cited

Liverpool has in recent years, with inflated sales then being reinvested in smart signings. And a fellow Premier League club is supposedly looking to replicate its success.

Both players went out on loan where their valuations rose before Liverpool cashed in this summer, collecting around $68m (£52m/€62m) for the duo from Brentford. Newcastle managed to keep key trio Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and this summer despite PSR concerns, instead selling off some fringe players, though it was backed into a corner on the price-tag to some degree and would ideally not have had to sell some young talents including Yankuba Minteh.

    Carvalho wanted guarantees of game time at Liverpool and wasn't going to be able to provide them. "Fabio is a player with a lot of qualities," Brentford boss Thomas Frank said when the move was confirmed.

    "Offensively, he has great abilities on the ball: he can go past players, slide a pass, create chances and get on the end of chances. He's a type of player that we don't have many of in the squad so he will add that something extra for us."

    Since signing for Brentford, Carvalho has scored one goal in eight appearances in all competitions. Van den Berg has made six appearances to date, with two of those coming in the Carabao Cup.

    Liverpool.com says: The Reds have done really well to get big fees for players in the transfer market in recent times and that trait returned this summer. Getting as much as $68m for Carvalho and Van den Berg was excellent business with Brentford paying over the odds for the pair, even though they are talented.
